Logistics

Raw materials collection is the first link in Centravo’s service chain. The product groups’ highly perishable nature and diversity, as well as the large collection areas and varying volumes involved, necessitate the implementation of a high-performance logistics organisation with well established processes.

Quickly perishable organic by-products from the food industry are transported by highly specialised vehicles to processing plants within just a few hours. The meat industry works according to its own laws: If the weather forecast promises good barbecue weather in the summer, the meat industry shifts into high gear, and the Centravo Group’s logistics system also needs to go into action.

Vehicle Fleet

The types of fleet vehicles used reflect the various specialised tasks performed by Centravo Logistics.

The fleet’s core elements are the “Non-Food Fleet”, which consists of trucks and trailers with cooled isothermal containers for K3 materials (hides & skins, pet food), and heavy dump trucks (some with scales) that are used to transport K1 residues for GZM as well as K3 products for processing in neighbouring countries. Transport for our Oils & Fats business unit is managed by a “Food Fleet” consisting of refrigerated trucks and tanker vehicles.

Centravo also operates silo vehicles for bulk cargo shipments of meat and bone meal, specially equipped small vans that are used for pick-ups from farms, and skid loaders for epidemic readiness operations.

Environment

In accordance with the Centravo Group's principles, Centravo Logistics also consistently focuses on environmental compatibility.

The fleet is powered by biofuels provided by the company's own filling station, and Centravo Logistics also meets the requirements for CO2 certification from the Energy Agency of the Swiss Private Sector (EnAW).

Truck drivers regularly complete driver education courses that teach them a driving style that ensures optimal energy conservation.

Trip planning is continuously optimised, and empty runs thus prevented, through the use of state-of-the-art scheduling software that includes an effective classification system.

Quality & Safety

The concepts of quality and safety are important for Centravo Logistics for many different reasons.

For us, quality means customer oriented flexibility, reliability and efficiency in all logistics operations. Statutory regulations on hygiene, the environment, the workplace and road safety are constantly reviewed and rigorously complied with. Quality also stands for excellent handling of goods guaranteed by traceability.

Preventive safety measures include constant monitoring and regular maintenance of vehicles in our own workshop, as well as training courses for our drivers in line with the vehicle operator regulation (CZV) in Switzerland.

Centravo Logistics is certified in accordance with the ISO22000 standard. Transport operations and vehicle cleaning and maintenance are performed in accordance with the provisions of this standard.
