Hides and Skins (Centravo AG)

Since the dawn of time, the most important “by-products” derived from animal slaughter have been hides and skins. CENTRAVO is the headquarters for all hide and skin collection and their marketing in Switzerland. 

Swiss bovine hides and calfskin, as well as lambskins and sheepskins used in the manufacturing of exceptionally high-quality leathers, have earned an excellent worldwide reputation. 

 

As a Swiss meat-processing company, CENTRAVO has set the goal to optimally market this valuable raw material. Approximately 850,000 pieces of hides and skins are prepared yearly in CENTRAVO’s multiple shift operation, inside their modern, computerized processing plant. This amounts to a total weight of about 16,000 tons per year of prepared material, destined for use by leather manufacturers. 

 

Over 90% of the merchandise is exported – mainly to specialized tanneries within the European Union. 

 

The hide and skin market is one of the few agriculture-related markets which is unregulated. This means that its global product marketing is subject directly to the laws of supply and demand.
